About Downtown Hobbies

Downtown R/C Hobbies, located in Auburn, is celebrating 6 years in the community. Owners Ron and Nanci Lawson have lived in Auburn for over 15 years.

Ron has turned his passion and hobby into his business. He is currently a member of the Sacramento Red Barons flying club and enjoys instructing new students in the art of R/C flying. For the past 5 years Ron has been flying and competing in Warbird Pylon Races. Pylon racing consists of 2 pylons that are 700 feet apart and the pilots build their favorite Warbird or Reno racers and compete against each other in a 10 lap race both at the Sacramento Red Barons field in Lincoln and the Sacramento Area Models Field in Rancho Cordova.

Another member of the Downtown Hobbies racing team is store manager, Chance Harris, who has been flying for 14 years. Chance started pylon racing 2 years ago with his scratch built Reno Racer, Tsunami. In the Downtown Hobbies race team hanger you will find the Red Baron, Dago Red, Color Tile owned and piloted by Ron. The Magnificent Tsunami, Focke-Wulf, Super Corsair and Voo-Doo owned and piloted by Chance. A spectacular display of scale models indeed!
